Today we’re going to talk about caulk. C-A-U-L-K
What are your thoughts about caulk? For most homeowners it rarely crosses their minds. For instance, did you know that caulk is used in all sorts of places inside and outside a home? There are two main types of caulk. Latex and silicone. Latex caulk is paintable, but can crack over time. Silicone caulk is more flexible and water resistant, but it cannot be painted. Caulk is designed to be a semi-elastic water barrier at countertops, bathtubs, siding seams, and around doors and windows, just to name a few uses. Over time caulk can shrink, crack or de-laminate, allowing water to enter places it should not be.
Are we beginning to see a pattern?
Water penetration is a home’s number one enemy. It’s important to check the caulking inside and outside a home annually, and re-caulk as needed.
